MINISTRIES

EAGLE WINGS

In 2012, a gift was given to the Pratt Presbyterian Church to create a program that would help qualifying third through sixth grade children in the Pratt community develop their potential and give them the opportunity to learn about Christ.  Reverend Stephen Wing and LuAnn Bergner initially visited with the schools to find out what the need was in our community to better serve children selected for the program. Through those visits, the idea of a mentoring ministry was determined.  The name Eagle Wings Ministry was chosen for the name of the program.

In May of 2013, Carol Stull became the director for the Eagle Wings Ministry.  In July, a group of 10 mentors, 5 board members, 2 coach/supervisors and our prayer coordinator all received training geared to safe and effective procedures for establishing a Christian mentoring ministry.  By the end of September 2013, our first mentor and mentee were matched.  Using common interests, 35 more children have been matched with mentors from the Presbyterian and other churches in our community.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

The Pratt Presbyterian Church session approved establishing a garden between the church parking lot and the Genesis Center.  Twelve beds were built and church members donated tools, hoses, seeds and plants.  The garden has been a tool to teach our mentees and their families about gardening and preparing healthy meals with fresh produce.  All of the families as well as the Achievement House and our church members have benefited from the produce.  Our church received grants from South Central Community Foundation to help pay for the cost of the beds and moving hydrants closer to the garden.
